Figure Lighting Practice

Artists have been shaping light the same way for hundreds of years. This tool allows you to deconstruct those timeless principles in a real-time 3D environment. Here are three that stand the test of time:
  • Split Color Lighting: Place accent lights on either side of the model to emphasize muscle volume and separate forms. Add a white light to control contrast.
  • Underlighting: Position the light source near the floor to catch the underside of the anatomy. This reverses natural shadows and gives the character a more menacing look.
  • Chiaroscuro Lighting: A Renaissance classic built on extreme contrast. Position your lights so parts of the body plunge into deep shadow while others stay sharply lit.
All of these setups are easy to recreate here. Now it’s your turn to put them to work in a modern workflow.
